Hans Christian Andersen was an author, who has written many fairytales, which are read all over the world. He was born in a poor family. His father died when Hans Christian Andersen was a child. His mother died in 1819 very poor. Hans Christian Andersen grew-up in Odense at Funen, where his home as a child still excists.

He wanted to be a ballet dancer at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen, but he failed the test.

Hans Christian Andersen wrote a few novels and became famous in Denmark. In 1835 he published his first fairytale for children - 24 booklets with fairytales he published - the last one in 1872.
