Niels Bohr (1885 - 1962) Scientist

Niels Bohr was professor at the University of Copenhagen from 1916 - 1956.

In 1913 he put forward 2 revolutionary hypothesises:

  • The atoms exist in a row of states with an exact definition of energy.
  • The atoms can change from one state to a state with lower energy while it is sending out radiation, for instance light.

In 1922 Niels Bohr got the Nobel-price.

In 1940 he put forward a hypothesis about fission, which have had a decisive importance for the exploitation of nuclear energy.

In 1950 Niels Bohr warned the world of the danger of the abuse of nuclear power.
