The 21th Century, 2000 -
2099
A New Century |
|
The Danes have some mistrust when they are asked to join bigger communities.
It was ok to join the NATO in 1949 because the Danes had a lesson in
1940 by the German occupation.
It was ok to join the European Union in 1973, because it was good for
the Danish economy.
But to be a European was difficult, so as the years went by the opposition
to the EU was increasing, until September 11th 2001, where the Danes
had a new lesson.
September the 28th 2000
The danish economy is strong and good and are fulfilling all
the conditions for joining the common European monetary standard.

|
|
Late in year 1999 it was decided to hold a referendum September the
28th 2000 about joining the Euro.
February 2000 the Austrians had voted for a new government, which some
of the other EU-countries governments disliked. In one day the EU decided
to boykot Austria.
The way some of the other EU-members behaved, was making the Danes
to change their minds about the European monetary standard.
The Danes voted No (53.1 %). The Danes had decided to give the politicians
a lesson.
Some funny arguments for voting 'No':
"The Danish Krone is a sign of Danish and have exited for 1.000
years" - Please read the history of the Danish
coins from 995 AC till today - you will see the Krone is only 126
years old and only introduced because of the Scandinavian monetary union
in 1875.
"There is nothing Danish at the coins" - Everyone
of the countries, which are coining the Euros have their own national
signs on one side of the coins, just like the example of the Danish
2 Euro on the right.
The coin was showened in a pamphlet issued by The Danish Central
bank.

2000 Another bridge
The bridge which is connecting Denmark and Sweden, was opened June
the 15th 2000.
|
|
The bridge is both for automobiles and for trains and gives posibilities
for connecting the capital of Denmark and the 3rd biggest city
of Sweden to be joined again as they were until 1658.
The Swedish king and the Danish Queen opened the bridge by taking
the train from Sweden and from Denmark. The trains were connected
at the little Danish island, Peberholmen, near the midle of The
Sound between Denmark and Sweden.

2001 The Lesson
September 11th 2001 an attack was made on the democracy.
People were shocked at this wickedness, this misuse of the democratic
open society.
|
|
|
|
|
In the days after you could see the Danish flag at half mast
all over Denmark to show the respect for the dead in New York.
|
The Danes are ready to fight against the wickedness, to defend the
democracy.
