The Sights

If you are looking for some peace and a place, which is not spoiled by too many tourists - Lęsų is just the place.

You have to use a ferry which is going from Frederikshavn to the west of the island.

Only about 2,300 people are living at the island. The 'capital' of the island is Byrum, which is placed nearly at the middle. The church in the town is from the 13th century and is the eldest building on the island.

At some farms you can see roofs slated with seaweed, because the island soon lost the forests, because they were used to make salt out of the seawater.

The northern part of Denmark is still rising from the sea after the Ice Age 10,000 years ago. You can see a lot 'new' land at the south of the island. Often there are arranged trips to this area on Icelandic horses.
