The Sights

During the many wars between Sweden and Denmark, Tønder has been plundered and the last plundering in 1658 stopped the growth of the city. When you go to Tønder, you will not believe, it has been a harbour-city. There are many old houses from the 16th and 17th Century.

Over 50 of the houses in the city have been putted on a preservation order list and must not be changed.

Museums

The Zeppelin Base Gasværkvej 1 DK-6270 Tønder
A museum about the German zeppelins, which had a base in Tønder (in German Tondern), while this area of Denmark was occupied by Germany (1864 - 1920).
