The Sights
Because of many raids on the danish stretch of coasts a fortress was built on the island - Als - to protect the people.
Because of the fortress and the good position the city came into existence.
The castle near the harbour has some very insteresting exhibitions about the wars Denmark has had with Germany.
A very few old buildings are left near the harbour, but the most exiting of the city is the surrounding country, with many historical places bringing up memories about the Danish history.
