1857 Custom Due at the Sound

1857 is the last year where Denmark is getting costums due from ships passing the Sound. The costums due has been collected since 1429 and have among other things being used for the building of Kronborg Castle at Elsinore.

The zoological garden in Copenhagen is opened in 1859.

Denmark has problems with the Germans in the duchies and tries to make a policy which should satisfy both the Danes and the Germans, but both sides don't agree the policy.

King Frederik dies 1863 and with him the Oldenburg line. He is followed by Christian, from the Glücksburg. The new king is so Danish as a king can be, but because he is comming from the duchies, people thinks in the beginning he is German-minded.

The first street car line in Northern Europe is opened in Copenhagen 1863.
