The Sights

Frederikshavn was earlier only a little fishing village named Fladstrand.

Because of a good strategic placing a citadel was built in 1687 and the city was renamed to Frederikshavn.

Today only the powder magazine is left of the citadel, and is one of the eldest buildings of the city.

Close by is a tower commanding a wide view over the most of the northerns part of Jutland. In good weather you can see Skagen.

Frederikshavn has still the houses from the fishing village even the city has grewed very much since the railroad came to the city in 1871.

From the important harbour are ferries going to Sweden (Gothenburg), Norway (Oslo) and to the little Danish island Lęsų.
