The very first railroad ferry line in Denmark was establised in 1872.

The line was established to connect the 2 railroads at Funen and Jutland. The trip between Funen and Jutland lasted about 15 minutes. Now it was possible to go by train from Nyborg (Storebælt) to every important city in Jutland.

The line was going from the little town Strib just north of Middelfart at Funen to Fredericia in Jutland.

Fredericia became an important junction in the Danish railway system.
