In 1882 Denmark issued a series of stamps, where the first values
were made in the colors the postal union of the world wanted stamps
to be: green for printed matters, red for postal cards, and blue
for letters.
Today it is a tradition in Denmark to have the face of the reigning
king or queen on the postage stamps. 50 years should pass before
Denmark got a portrait of the reigning king at the postage stamps.
It was king Christian the 9th, who was king of Denmark from 1863
to 1906. The first postage stamp with the king was issued in 1904.
Because of a rather large production of some of the two-colored
stamps, the remainder of a 8 Øre stamp is overprinted with a new
value in 1904.
