January the 17th 1972 king Frederik the IX died. The king was
very popular and should have had silver jubilee as king of Denmark
in 1972. A stamp was prepared and because of the kings death the
stamp was changed a little so it could be a stamp to memory the
king. It was issued the 11th of March - the kings birthday.
King Frederiks daughter became Queen Margrethe the II of Denmark.
The work on making a new series of stamps began. It was not an
easy job, because the period from late 1960s and early 1970s is
a time, where the people in charge are a kind of republican.
Spring 1972 a new increase of postal rates took place. For the
second time of the Danish postal history a stamp for the low values
were made for the letter postal rate. The first time was in 1912,
where there was a fire at the printing bureau.
Commerative Stamps
In 1972 it was 125 years ago the first railroad were opened in
the kingdom of Denmark.
The rate for letters to foreign countries was in 1972 100 Øre
or 1 Krone. A stamp was made especially for that postal rate.
It is showing a part of Denmark, Rebild Bakker, where US-citizens
are celebrating the 4th of July every year.

some of the elder Danish architecture.
