In the spring 1978 the shipyard in Elsinore began its newbuilding no. 418.

The newbuilding was the first of 3 ferries for use in the danish intercitytraffic. The 3 ferries were rather big and very modern in the equipment so the passengers could enjoy the trip between the harbourcities Korsør and Nyborg.

The launching took place August the 8th 1978 and when the vessel hit the water it pulled away 5,500 tons of water, which made a huge wave in the harbour of Elsinore.

The wave made an earlier liner careen so much that the moorings were cut and the liner vere about to capsize.

The name of the first of these 3 intercity-ferries was "Dronning Ingrid". To pass the Great Belt by one of these 3 ferries you should use precisely 1 hour.
