On its maiden voyage from Copenhagen to Godthaab (Nuuk) in Greenland the ship "Hans Hedtoft" collided with an iceberg and sank - nobody were ever found.

A foundation was created by collecting money. One of the ways was by issuing a stamp in Denmark and Greenland with a surplus.

The popular king Frederik IX has his 60th birthday in 1959 - three stamps are isued to celebrate.

A ballet dancer from the Royal Corps de Ballet is on a stamp from 1959. She is telling people, there is a festival going on in Copenhagen.

The Red Cross was founded in 1859 and the first two colored stamps from this machine were issued.

To remind people about the UN World Refugee Year (1959-60) a stamp was issued in 1960.
