Because greenland was following the Danish postal rates new values
of the series for daily use were issued in 1958 and 1959.
Commerative Stamps
When the Europeans arrived to Greenland they also brought some
diseases, among them was the tuberculosis. For many years it was
a problem and help was needed. A stamp was issued in 1958 with
a surplus for the fund to help people, who had the disease.
Hans Egede, a missionary, is remembered as the man, who remade
the connection between Greenland and Denmark. In 1958 a stamp
was issued because it was 200 years ago since his death.
A disaster happened in 1959, where the newbuild arctic
ship - Hans Hedtoft - hit an iceberg on the ships
maiden voyage from Copenhagen to Godthaab (Nuuk).
Noone survived. Both in Denmark
and in Greenland stamps were issued to collect money
to a foundation.

Knud Rasmussen, an explorer, sat up a base camp at Thule in the
north of Greenland. The base camp was established in 1910.
Drumming dance, a speciality of the people living in Greenland,
was immortalized in 1961.
