During the German
occupation of Denmark in 1940-45 streetcars were very important,
so it was a serious loss for the city, when the Germans bomped
the carbarn in 1944. Only 1 trailer was saved, so Aarhus had no
streetcars.
The streetcar company in Copenhagen built 1 new streetcar and
a trailer for the company in Aarhus, and the railwayfactory in
Randers built 11 others, so in 1947 the streetcars were back in
Aarhus like before the worldwar 2.
July the 18th 1945 the first tram ran again at the line and in
1947 the tram traffic was back to normal.
Like other streetcar companies in Denmark, the company in Aarhus
had their own coins to use as payments for the tickets.
The last day an electric streetcar was running in Aarhus was
Nov. the 6th 1971.
