Previous Page The Streetcars of Copenhagen - Line no. 14 Next Page

The ancestor of this line was a horse-driven bus line, which began to operate in 1841.

The line was running from the center of Copenhagen up north to Sorgenfri and to Charlottenlund. In 1863 a part of the line got rails and the first streetcar was seen in the streets of Copenhagen. The part of the line, which was going to Klampenborg was finished in 1884.

This part of the line was a streetcar line using steam as power. The steam was not a success and the line was closed in 1892.

The tracks from the closed line were used for a local streetcar line from 1897 to 1902, where the electrification of the whole line from Charlottenlund to Copenhagen began.

In 1904 the work was done and line no. 14 began running as an electric streetcar line.

The line was operated by 2 companies, one in Copenhagen and one in Hellerup:

When the streetcar reached the border between the 2 cities the personel changed.

During the years the line became the longest af the streetcar lines of Copenhagen, and in 1949 it had a lenght of 17.3 Kilometers - 10.7 Miles.

The last day for the line to be a streetcar line was October the 16th 1965.

The nickname of the line was:
Marianne
because the line had the French national colors - red/white/blue.
