In August 1914 the 1st World War began. As always in wartimes, people
were hiding their values, and the gold and silvercoins disapeared from
cirkulation.
The coppercoins became coined in iron and to make them look like the
copper ones, they were painted with a dark color - they returned in
copper after the war.
The 25 øre and 10 øre were coined in silver during the 1st world war,
but the lack of silver was the reason why the two coins were coined
in a silverlooking metal - coppernickel after the end of the World War.
The 2 Krone and 1 Krone were replaced by bank notes and never returned
as silvercoins.
